Tower of the Cojocarilors

A few words about Tower of the Cojocarilors, Sighisoara
The Tower of the Cojocarilors in Sighisoara, also known as the Tower of the Furriers, is an emblematic historical structure located on the western side of the city wall. This tower, which dates from the 15th century, played an important role in the defence of the medieval town and was originally the responsibility of the guild of the cojocarilors, craftsmen who specialised in the processing of hides and furs.
The tower is four storeys high and is distinctive for its hexagonal shape, which allowed a wide field of fire and observation, making it a strategic point in the fortress’ defensive system. Over the centuries, the Cojocarilors’ Tower has been affected by several events, including a devastating fire in 1676 that led to the need for further reconstruction.
Today, the Cojocarilor Tower is one of the nine remaining towers that still stand around the medieval citadel of Sighisoara, each reflecting the rich history and architecture of the town. It continues to be a major point of interest for tourists visiting Sighisoara, offering them the opportunity to experience first-hand part of European medieval history.
