Tailors’ Tower

A few words about Tailors’ Tower, Sighisoara
The Tailors’ Tower, also known as Schneiderturm in German, is one of the best preserved defensive towers in Sighisoara, with a distinct hexagonal shape. It was built in the 14th century and is part of the fortifications that protected the medieval town. The tower is located on the opposite side of the Clock Tower and controls access from the north of the fortress.
The original structure of the tower has undergone significant changes over the years, including reconstruction after various fires and other disasters. One of the most important reconstructions took place after the fire of 1676, when the tower was badly damaged. The reconstruction was completed in a style that retained the original defensive features, but added aesthetic elements specific to that period.
Today, the Tailors’ Tower is open to visitors, giving them an insight into medieval defence techniques and daily life in a fortified fortress. It is an important reference point in the guided tours of the fortress and serves as a symbol of Sighisoara’s rich history and craftsmanship.
