A few words about Monastery Church, Sighisoara

The Church of the Monastery of Sighisoara, an exceptional architectural and historical monument, is located right in the heart of Sighisoara Fortress. This impressive church, built in Gothic style between 1492-1515, stands on the foundation of an older Dominican church dating from the 13th century. Today, the Monastery Church serves as a Lutheran parish church, retaining its architectural splendour and rich ornamental detailing that characterises the late Gothic period.
The entrance to the church is marked by a spectacular Gothic portal, adorned with detailed carvings depicting religious figures and symbols, giving it an imposing presence. The interior of the church is decorated with fragments of old frescoes and stained glass windows, which add a special and mystical dimension to the sacred space.
Over the centuries, the Monastery Church has undergone several restorations aimed at preserving and protecting its artistic and historical heritage, ensuring that its beauty and authenticity are preserved for future generations.
It is not only a place of worship but also a major tourist attraction in Sighisoara, offering visitors a window into the deep history and vibrant culture of the medieval town. Every element of the church, from the exterior architecture to the interior art, reflects the community’s commitment over time to preserve this historic treasure.
