Guilder House

A few words about Guilder House, Sighisoara
The Guild House in Sighisoara is a fascinating destination for lovers of history and crafts. This museum is located at 1 Strada Tunului, in a historic building dating from the early 18th century, originally a wine cellar. It displays an impressive collection of tools, equipment and machinery that were used by Saxon craftsmen over 100 years ago.
The exhibition at the Guild House illustrates not only the tools and craft techniques, but also how the guilds influenced the economic and social development of Sighisoara. The guilds, groups of craftsmen and merchants, not only produced and traded goods, but also contributed to the defence and administration of the city. Each guild was responsible for building and maintaining part of the city wall and a certain defence tower.
A notable example of exquisite craftsmanship is a wristwatch made in Sighisoara by Johann Kürschel, a meticulously decorated and functional object reflecting the craftsmen’s mastery and attention to detail of the period.
The Guild House is not only a museum, but also a place where visitors can learn about the deep-rooted traditions of the Transylvanian Saxon community, the evolution of craft technologies and the vital role of the guilds in the medieval social and economic structure of the region.
